The film that reminds me of Fountain Head

Inspired from this post.

Reading the last paragraph on Tamil films that reflects Ayn Rand's Objectivism, I am reminded of "Velli Thirai" (Translation: Silver Screen) which is a close resemblance to Fountain Head. I have seen the film more than 5 times and every time I am in love with the characterization of the hero. In the points below, I have provided my reflections on the film.

• Saravanan – An aspiring director, confident of his stories and scripts and is not willing to compromise. I believe his characterization is based on Howard Roark.
  
• Mythili – A heroine who meets Saravanan as a assistant director and falls in love with him. She marries him later. At one stage she realizes she is becoming a burden for Saravanan and leaves him so that he can concentrate on fulfilling his dreams. Doesn't it remind of Dominique?
  
• Kannayan – Saravanan's roommate. An aspiring actor. He realizes that for him to become a big actor, he has to write a strong story and make him the hero of the story. So, he steals Saravanan's story and claims it to be his story. He finds a producer who produces the film and makes him the hero of the film. Yeah, reminds me of Peter Keating.
  

And here is the best of all.

At one point, Saravanan directs a film in which Kannayan acts as the hero. Because of ego clashes, Kannayan refuses to continue the film. To complete the film, Saravanan uses his intelligence and with the help of few of his friends, fools Saravanan and captures his real life emotions and uses it in the film. I am again reminded of the scene in Fountain Head, where Roark uses his intelligence and designs a project for Peter Keating.

PS: I have not seen the Malayalam original version of the film or the English film from which the story is inspired.

Brave Soldier

Last week was an important one. I believe I learnt something important about me because of two instances.

1. Until yesterday, if someone had asked me to define my life in a few words, it would have been self-dependant and straight forwardness. But yesterday as I was reading Ayn Rand's "We the Living", something struck me hard. It happened when Kira, the protagonist tells herself "Kira, you are a brave soldier".

2. The same happened when I read the following quote - "The real winners in life are the people who look at every situation with an expectation that they can make it work or make it better."

Its like when you watch a movie and you feel some particular scene has happened in your life and you are stunned for a moment.

The battle has started and I would be extremely proud of myself if I can say a few years later what Kira had felt.

Fountain Head - Energy Fountain

Fountain Head - One book which gives me enormous strength. Just as a fountain, the book kindles the energy within me that I am not able to find myself. Every time I am in a depressed state, I read a few chapters of the book and then the situation becomes clearer. So, decision making becomes much easier.

Why does this happen? I am not 100% confident of the answer. But I think its because of the character of Dominique Francon. A heroine who keeps everything to her heart. Its only to Roark or perhaps Wyanand, that she expresses her opinion. Also, she does the unthinkable as a test to find out how much she can endure and accept pain.

So, when I have a problem or a confusion, I consider it as a test to my endurance. I accept the pain associated. And rarely do I express it to others. And its wonderful to see the same characteristics in a heroine and when she succeeds, I feel all my pain will also be worth the ending. I think that is the reason why I read this book again and again. In case I find any new reasons, it will surely be posted.
